Man arrested in fatal stabbing after fight at south Sacramento convenience store

Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of murder after he allegedly fatally stabbed a man during a fight Monday night outside of a convenience store in south Sacramento.

Deputies were called to the store on the 7700 block of Stockton Boulevard around 11 p.m. and found a man suffering from trauma to the body, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at a hospital, deputies said.

Homicide detectives learned the victim had fought inside the store with another man before the stabbing outside. Investigators later identified and arrested the suspect in the assault as Anthony Venrod Coleman, 29.

Coleman was sentenced to a four-year prison term after pleading no contest in September 2016 to a charge of second-degree assault, according to Sacramento Superior Court records. In 2011, he was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading no contest to burglary.

Coleman is being held without bail in the Sacramento County Main Jail; he is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
