Van stolen from youth home overturns in Orangevale; 15-year-old driver injured
A van stolen from a Sacramento-area youth home flipped over Friday into the backyard home of an Orangevale home, injuring the 15-year-old accused of stealing it, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The juvenile living at the youth home took the keys to the Ford van, according to CHP East Sacramento spokesman Officer Josh Sherwood. The unnamed facility reported the stolen vehicle to the CHP prior to the crash.
It’s unclear what led to the crash, but Sherwood said patrolmen and emergency responders were called to the scene near Hazel and Madison avenues just before 5 p.m. to find the van overturned in a backyard.
The teen, who was cited and released into the custody of the youth home, was treated at Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmichael for minor injuries, Sherwood said.
No other injuries were reported.
