Sheriff’s detectives investigate south Sacramento ‘targeted’ shooting that killed man

Sheriff’s detectives were seeking information about what they believe was a “targeted” shooting Friday that killed a 23-year-old man in a south Sacramento neighborhood.

The fatal shooting was reported shortly after 11 a.m. in the 7600 block of Harvest Woods Drive, just east of Stockton Boulevard and north of Elsie Avenue, according to a news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the area and found the injured man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Sheriff’s officials said the deputies tried to save the man’s life as medics responded. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives believe the shooting was targeted, but they do not know motive behind the shooting, sheriff’s officials said. Investigators on Friday evening were still questioning witnesses, according to the release. No suspect information was available.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name once his family has been properly notified.

Sheriff’s officials asked anyone with information about this deadly shooting to call the Sheriff’s Office 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted confidentially through the P3 Tips website and app or by calling 916-874-8477.
