Man arrested on suspicion of DUI after fatal head-on crash, North Sacramento CHP says
A 29-year-old Antelope man is facing DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges after a multiple-vehicle crash left one man dead.
Amardeep Singh was driving westbound in a gray Toyota Corolla on Elkhorn Boulevard around 11:45 p.m. Monday when he veered into the eastbound lane of traffic near the intersection of East Levee Road, according to A.J. McTaggart, a spokesman for the North Sacramento California Highway Patrol.
Singh crashed head on into a white Dodge van driven by a 50-year-old Woodland man. The suspect then spun counterclockwise and side swiped the Audi sedan that had been in front of him in the westbound lane of traffic.
Singh then crashed into the side of a white Toyota Tundra that was traveling east behind the van, McTaggart said.
Authorities believe Singh may have been trying to pass the Audi in the eastbound lane.
Emergency responders provided care to all drivers involved. However, the Woodland man driving the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. Other drivers suffered minor injuries.
CHP investigators arrested Singh on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Singh received medical care at a Sacramento-area hospital before being booked at Sacramento County Main Jail early Tuesday.
Singh is awaiting his arraignment. His bail is set at $1,070,000.
