Yolo deputies recover stolen bee boxes worth thousands

A Yolo County man was arrested Tuesday after sheriff’s deputies recovered more than 70 bee boxes that were reported stolen, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said.

On Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant in the 34000 block of County Road 25 near Woodland as part of an ongoing investigation into agriculture theft.

While there, “Detectives located over 70 stolen bee boxes that had been stolen from at least 6 local Yolo County bee keepers,” the sheriff’s office said.

The stolen bees were valued at more than $18,000.

“Bee box thefts are unfortunately common in Yolo County and the surrounding area,” according to the news release.

Detectives also found two stolen ATVs, a stolen motorcycle and methamphetamine at the location, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrested Justin Perdue, 35, on suspicion of possession of the stolen property, including the bee boxes and the methamphetamine.
