31-year-old Loomis man found dead in Sacramento County jail cell, deputies say

Breaking News

A Loomis man was found dead in the Sacramento County Main Jail this week, according to coroner records.

The man, Travis Mitchell Welde, 31, was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in response to an inquiry from The Sacramento Bee.

“At this time, we do not have any evidence to suggest there was foul play,” Sgt. Tess Deterding said.

Deputies found him alone in his cell and began life-saving measures until fire personnel arrived, she said.

Welde’s cause of death is listed as “undetermined,” according to coroner records.

Welde had been booked into the jail in late July on suspicion of felony charges of possession of brass knuckles and a controlled substance, Sacramento County Superior Court records show. He was scheduled to appear in a settlement conference August 18.

He is survived by his parents, who live in Placer County.
