Two semi-automatic rifles seized as gun-related activity rises, Sacramento police say
The Sacramento Police Department is continuing to see a rise in gun-related activity this summer, reporting nine separate firearm-related arrests in the past few days, including the seizure of two semi-automatic rifles.
Police responded to 184 ShotSpotter reports in June and July, making 75 firearm-related arrests in July alone, the agency said in a news release Wednesday. The arrests included convicted felons, validated gang members and narcotics offenders.
Officers asked for the public’s help in reducing gun violence in June, when 11 people were killed from shootings over a 30-day period.
The department has also recovered 395 spent bullet casings this June and July, compared to only 148 casings during the same period in 2019.
“By taking these guns off the streets, our officers have made our city safer for the community and our officers. The Sacramento Police Department is committed to protecting our community and reducing gun violence,” Sacramento Police Chief Daniel Hahn said.
