High-speed chase in Solano County ends in crash and suspect’s fourth arrest in four months
A 21-year-old man is facing charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of recklessly evading law enforcement after a car chase ended Tuesday in his arrest.
Gustavo Ibarra, who is suspected of stealing a vehicle and taking items of value from vehicles, has been arrested four times in the last four months on related charges, Solano County deputies said in a social media post.
The suspect is accused of stealing a white Chrysler 200 on Monday from Suisun City, and then using it in a series of other crimes, according to a statement on Facebook from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
Vacaville Police pursued the vehicle on Monday evening, but stopped when the danger to the public was too great, the Facebook post said. On Tuesday, an investigator with the California Highway Patrol’s Contra Costa Vehicle Theft Unit contacted the Solano County Auto Theft Task Force with information about the stolen vehicle.
Two members of the task force, one from the Sheriff’s Office and another from CHP, observed the Chrysler 200 driving in Fairfield on Tuesday afternoon. The Solano County Sheriff’s Enforcement Team (SET) attempted a traffic stop but the suspect fled at high speeds.
A pursuit ensued along Highway 12, with deputies following as the suspect’s car reached 110 mph. The chase ended quickly when the suspect crashed into concrete barriers on a transition road between Highway 12 and Interstate 80, according to the post.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but SET officers apprehended him and arrested him, the Sheriff’s Office said. Several stolen valuables were recovered in the vehicle.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone missing property taken on Monday or Tuesday to contact the Solano County Auto Theft Task Force at (707) 784-7050.
