Update: Meiss Fire south of Rancho Murieta contained, Cal Fire says
Cal Fire personnel said Friday morning a wildfire that sparked the day before was fully contained southwest of Rancho Murieta in eastern Sacramento County.
The fire charred 512 acres in the rural pastures off Dillard and Meiss roads. Firefighters said forward progress had been halted around 8 p.m. In a 8 a.m. update, Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado unit said the fire was fully contained.
“Fire crews made great progress over night and have gained containment of the fire,” Cal Fire said. “One engine crew will remain on site in patrol status to ensure all hot spots are extinguished.”
Spokeswoman Diana Swart said volunteer staff from Mt. Zion Lookout made the first report of a grass fire on the Van Vleck Ranch around 4 p.m. Thursday. “The quick report and response helped to stop forward progress early,” she said in a previous incident update.
The fire has burned mostly grass, video shot from Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District’s helicopter shows.
