Three men arrested in Davis on suspicion of separate assaults, police say
Three men face charges of assault with a deadly weapon after Davis police made arrests for three separate assaults since Thursday.
Ronald Jake Herrera, 58, was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Thursday after police say he brandished a knife and made threats to an adult man in the 1600 block of Drew Circle. The victim stepped in when the suspect engaged in an escalating verbal altercation with the victim’s mother regarding housing, according to Lt. Art Camacho of the Davis Police Department.
The mother and son fled to a nearby gas station to call the police, who then arrested Herrera. In addition to assault, Herrera was charged with making criminal threats and was booked at Yolo County Jail.
On Friday just before 7 p.m., police were called to the Amtrak station in the 800 block of Second Street. One man said that another kicked him and struck him with a glass wine bottle, leaving visible injuries.
The altercation was prompted by a verbal argument when the victim refused to buy the suspect a train ticket to Sacramento, despite his requests, Camacho said.
Shawn Patrick Sweeney, 41, was arrested and booked at Yolo County Jail.
Police made another arrest for assault with a deadly weapon Monday around 2 a.m. after receiving a call from the victim. Camacho said that an adult son and mother were sharing a hotel room in the 100 block of B Street when they had a verbal argument.
The altercation escalated when the suspect used his hands in a stranglehold around his mother’s neck, police said. The victim was able to get away and call the police, who arrested Jonas Enrique Navarette, 24, and booked him at Yolo County Jail.
