Citrus Heights church vandalized with hate symbol

Police tape at crime scene

Police are investigating after Holy Family Catholic Church in Citrus Heights was vandalized late Monday evening. The incident left its statue of the Virgin Mary beheaded while a swastika was painted over the Ten Commandments, according to the parish school’s Facebook post.

The church has already completed repairs, reattaching the head to the statue and cleaning off the graffiti. The church’s announcement of the vandalism expressed deep sadness, but said that parishioners’ “faith does not lay in statues or physical items.”

Holy Family also called on the community to pray for the vandals to bring them “home to Christ.”
