Suspect in attempted sexual assault on Davis greenbelt arrested
A 36-year-old Sacramento man faces an attempted sexual assault charge after the Davis Police Department arrested him Monday for an Aug. 3 incident. Jose Trinidad Perez Meza is accused of grabbing a woman and dragging her to the ground around midnight on a greenbelt in South Davis near the 1600 block of Drew Circle.
The victim said that after she was grabbed, the suspect took her phone and told her he was armed, threatening to shoot her, a Facebook post by police said. The victim managed to negotiate with the suspect to stop the attack and she was left uninjured.
Police responded and were unable to locate the suspect on the scene, prompting “an extensive investigation.”
Officers identified Meza as the subject, arresting him Monday at his Sacramento residence. The police later got a search warrant for the residence.
“Based on information gathered by Investigators, we believe there may be other victims who have not reported being assaulted by Perez Meza,” the police department said in a Facebook post.
The Davis Police Department urges any victims to call at (530) 747-5400.
