Suspect found in building’s rafters after burglary triggered citywide alert in Davis
A burglary at a business in the 200 block of I Street in Davis triggered a citywide text calling for residents to shelter in place on Thursday night.
Around 9:20 p.m., the Davis Police Department was notified that the business’s alarm had sounded and voices were heard inside the business, according to spokesman Lt. Art Camacho. Police responded to the scene and formed a perimeter around the building, using a loudspeaker to announce their presence and call for anyone inside the building to exit.
The Davis Police Department sent out an Everbridge alert to city residents, “out of an abundance of caution,” Camacho said. Police believed that the suspect could be armed.
Camacho said the department may not have intended for the text to go to all Davis residents.
“But we now know it works,” Camacho said.
Around 1:45 a.m. on Friday, police entered the building and found one unarmed suspect in the rafters of the business. The suspect, who remains unidentified, was arrested and booked at the Yolo County Jail on charges of burglary and resisting arrest.
