A 28-year-old was shot dead while driving in Sacramento. Deputies say he was targeted
A man was killed while driving in south Sacramento on Saturday night in what county deputies said was likely a targeted shooting.
In a news release, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a 28-year-old was driving near the 4700 block of 50th Avenue around 11 p.m. when deputies were notified of several gunshots via shotspotter technology.
When deputies arrived, they found the man, suffering from a gunshot wound, near a crashed car. The believe that he had been driving when the gunman fired, causing him to crash.
Deputies attempted first aid and life-saving measures, but fire personnel declared him dead at the scene.
Although homicide detectives believe the victim was targeted, they do not know what the motive may be. Investigators are conducting interviews with witnesses and do not have information regarding a possible suspect.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once his family has been notified. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to call 916-874-5115.
