Woodland man dies while driving against traffic on I-5 near Natomas, CHP says
A Woodland man died Saturday night while driving southbound against northbound traffic on Interstate 5 north of Highway 99 just north of Natomas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
In a news release, the CHP’s North Sacramento office said the 46-year-old man was driving the wrong way just before midnight when he crashed head-on into another car.
CHP officers were called out to the scene and learned that the man drove a Honda Accord directly into a Toyota Camry before being launched into the air and striking a Volvo D13 with the left side of the car.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by first responders, while the Sacramento man driving the Accord was taken to a hospital for minor injuries, along with the Idaho man driving the Volvo.
After the crash, northbound traffic on I-5 was diverted to Highway 99 for more than two hours.
CHP officers are still investigating the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call 916-348-2317.
