Suspected drunken screwdriver fight sends one man to the hospital, Sutter deputies say
Two men were suspected of drunkenly fighting each other with screwdrivers Saturday evening near the banks of the Sacramento River north of the Sacramento International Airport.
In a news release, the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies were dispatched to the Verona Marina, south of Nicolaus, on reports of a possible stabbing at a campground site nearby.
A caller told dispatchers that people involved in the stabbing left the area in a Ford pickup truck towing a boat.
Responding deputies found the truck driving recklessly and stopped the driver. One of the occupants had suffered a major stab wound. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives tracked down the other man involved in the stabbing and found that he also suffered a minor stab wound. He was treated for his injuries and released.
Sutter County Undersheriff Scott Smallwood said that although facts are still very limited, both men are believed to have used screwdrivers during the attack. Detectives are attempting to understand whether either of them is a victim or aggressor.
“It appears to be a mutual fight between the two of them,” Smallwood said.
