Teen dies after he’s dragged by escaping theft suspects’ vehicle, Sutter County sheriff says

Sutter County sheriff’s detectives on Friday were looking for two suspects after a teenager was dragged along a road while trying to stop men who tried to steal his father’s vehicle in Yuba City.

The 19-year-old man suffered major injuries, according to a news release from the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived and tried to provide to medical aid while they called for medics.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Sheriff’s Office had not released the victim’s name.

The incident was initially reported as a fight in the 2700 block of Howlett Avenue, about 2 miles west of Highway 99 in Yuba City.

Deputies arrived in the area and spoke with a man who said two men were trying to steal his vehicle. The suspects had left in a white sedan.

The man’s teenage son tried to stop the suspects’ vehicle by reaching in to disable it, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The man’s son was dragged by the suspects’ vehicle and found on injured on road. The suspects escaped before deputies arrived.

Authorities described the suspects as two men in their early 20s with thin body builds. No further suspect description was released.
