Man shot and killed during funeral at Sacramento cemetery identified by coroner

A man shot and killed Friday afternoon during a funeral service in Sacramento has been identified by the coroner.

Anthony Hairston, 32, died at a hospital following a cemetery shooting that also left a woman injured, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office and Sacramento Police Department.

Police responded around 1 p.m. Friday to a shooting at Odd Fellows Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum, at the corner of Broadway and Riverside Boulevard in Land Park, as a funeral service was in progress.

Arriving officers reportedly located two shooting victims in a vehicle about a mile away from the cemetery near 24th Street and Broadway, apparently on their way to a hospital, according to Police Department spokesman Officer Karl Chan.

Both were transported to a hospital with gunshot injuries, where Hairston was pronounced dead and the woman was listed in stable condition as of Friday.

Limited details have been released about the deadly incident. Homicide detectives canvassed the neighborhood looking for witnesses, evidence and surveillance video Friday, but no suspect description has been released as of early Monday. The investigation remains active.
