Badly injured boy found by fisherman near Yolo Bypass. Sacramento man arrested, deputies say

Yolo County authorities arrested a Sacramento man for attempted murder after a boy was found seriously injured near the Yolo Bypass on Sunday morning.

Deputies responded to County Road 22 near the west end of the Yolo Bypass around 8 a.m. after a fisherman located a juvenile who’d been the victim of an apparent assault, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said Monday in a social media post.

The victim, whose exact or approximate age wasn’t disclosed beyond being a minor, was taken to a hospital with “major” injuries, the post said.

Detectives identified the suspect in the assault as 18-year-old Oleg Lavrenko.

Authorities located and arrested Lavrenko at his Sacramento home later Sunday. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious deadly injury, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives continue to investigate the incident, and a motive is unknown. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office. Tips can be left anonymously at 530-668-5248.
