Three arrested in connection with fatal Roseville hotel shooting after fleeing the area
Three people have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man in a Roseville hotel room Friday morning.
The search for the suspects centered on hotel surveillance video which helped to outline a timeline of events, Roseville police said in a news release.
On Thursday evening, Michale Fotofili and Angelica Garcia rented a hotel room. Unidentified men were seen entering and leaving the room over several hours. Around 7 a.m. Friday, Fotofili is seen exiting the room and returning with a man police later identified as Anders Fulilangi Johansson. About 20 minutes later, Garcia enters the room with the homicide victim. After 10 minutes, Garcia and Fotofili exit the room and leave the property.
Around 7:45 a.m., gunshots were heard in the hotel room and hallway and several 911 calls were placed to Roseville police reporting the incident. Police and firefighters arrived less than 15 minutes later to find hotel guests performing CPR on the victim in the hallway, but fire officials declared the man dead.
Upon review of video footage, Roseville police said they saw Johansson leave the hotel with a firearm in his hand and drive away from the property in a black Chevrolet Yukon.
Several investigators reviewed surveillance footage and conducted interviews. The investigation was narrowed to locate Fotofili and Garcia in one vehicle and Johansson in the Yukon.
Fotofili and Garcia were found at a South San Francisco hotel by the San Mateo County Gang Task Force and were arrested around 7 p.m. Friday. They were booked on multiple charges, including robbery and conspiracy. Fotofili was awaiting trial for a pimping and pandering case, was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon and was on probation for felon in possession of a firearm in Sacramento, officials said. Garcia was on probation for drug-related charges and had two outstanding warrants for drug possession in Placer County.
Law enforcement agencies continued to search for Johansson. Roseville police searched a house possibly associated with Johansson in Sacramento around midnight Saturday when officers came in contact with the same vehicle as seen on video. Officers called for assistance from the Sacramento Police Department, but following a brief confrontation with Roseville police, the suspect fled.
Police learned Johansson may be going to Reno and officers began searching the area. Reno police found a matching vehicle and a person suspected to be Johansson around 4 p.m. Saturday and attempted a traffic stop. The driver did not pull over and a brief pursuit occurred before Johansson was stopped and arrested. A handgun was found in the vehicle, officials said.
Johansson was booked in the Washoe County Jail and faces multiple charges, including murder.
Roseville police say investigations led them to accuse Fotofili and Garcia of conspiring with Johansson to rob the victim when he met Garcia in the hotel, but that the incident escalated and led to Johansson shooting and killing the victim.
The Roseville Police Department was aided by the Reno Police Department, San Mateo County Gang Task Force, U.S. Marshal’s Office, the FBI and the Placer County Probation Department.
