Fire burning at a downtown Sacramento scrap yard, sending up a black plume of smoke
Firefighters on Thursday afternoon were trying to gain control of three-alarm fire burning at a downtown Sacramento scrap metal yard and sending a black plume of smoke visible from midtown, Natomas and other parts of the city.
The fire was burning at a metal recycling center near North B and 12th streets, near the Salvation Army, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.
Firefighters were using aerial ladders to surround and control the blaze which was contained to the pile of debris, department officials said. They cautioned drivers and bystanders be watchful for large number for firefighters with equipment and emergency vehicles in the area.
There is a Sims Metal Management Recycling Center located 130 North 12th Street, just west of the Salvation Army. But the location of the fire had not yet been confirmed.
The Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire early Wednesday near the 1200 block of North B Street. Sacramento police had to redirect traffic as firefighters extinguished the large wood pallet fire on Wednesday morning.
