A multi-vehicle collision has snarled traffic Tuesday on westbound Interstate 80 in the West Sacramento area after a multi-vehicle collision.

Eight people were hurt in the crash, including one motorist who suffered a major injury, the CHP reported.

The crash occurred at 10:34 a.m. Tuesday on I-80 at the westbound I-80 and westbound Highway 50 connector. I-80 just east of the the crash site was closed until 2:28 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Two of three three lanes remain closed on westbound I-80 near the Sacramento River, the state Department of Transportation reports.

According to CHP spokesman Officer Pedro Leon, those involved in the crash and witnesses “are all in unison that a big rig came plowing through traffic, taking with it eight vehicles.”

Alvin Ng, who suffered bruising to his left arm, said he was trying to merge when he saw the big rig traveling at a high speed.

“It crashed into me,” he said. “I can only remember spinning a few rounds and that’s it.”
