Man found beaten at West Sacramento motel identified as Sacramento resident
The Yolo County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died after being beaten with a pipe at a West Sacramento motel on Wednesday as Herbert Ublic Rhodes Jr., 60, of Sacramento.
Kelly Dema Carew, 26, of Sacramento is being held in Yolo County jail on suspicion of homicide in Rhodes’ death.
West Sacramento police Sgt. Roger Kinney said officers were called to the Great Value Inn, 1432 W. Capitol Ave., about 4:45 a.m. Wednesday regarding a disturbance at the motel.
Officers quickly arrived and found Rhodes dead on the ground near the front office. Carew, who was distraught, was also at the scene.
