Grass fire east of Herald reported contained at 122 acres

A grass fire that began Thursday afternoon east of Herald was reported fully contained about 9:15 p.m. after burning 122 acres.

Brice Bennett, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection spokesman, said the fire started about 1:38 p.m. in the 13500 block of Collier Road, near Jack Tone Road, in San Joaquin County. No homes were threatened, he said, noting that the area is largely open grassland used for grazing and bordered by vineyards.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
