Fire at Sacramento building closes Jibboom Street

Sacramento Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene of a commercial fire near downtown about 4 p.m.

Department spokesman Roberto Padilla said the fire at Jibboom Street and the I Street bridge was quickly controlled, but Jibboom Street is closed to traffic.

Padilla said he did not know what the building housed, and noted that the fire created smoke in the area. About 30 firefighters were on scene.

The primary effect will be to traffic during the commute hour, Padilla said, noting that the closure of Jibboom Street likely will also affect traffic on Interstate 5.
