Rocklin police look to identify burglary suspects after increase in garage thefts
Police on Thursday continued to look for burglary suspects captured on camera in Rocklin, where the city is seeing an increase in reported break-ins of detached garages, especially at apartment complexes.
Burglars are “defeating the outer garage lock and manually opening the door from the outside by disengaging the emergency release cord,” the Rocklin Police Department announced in a Facebook post.
On Wednesday, investigators released security camera video of two suspects breaking into a detached garage on Sept. 21 at The James apartment complex on West Oaks Boulevard. Police said numerous items were stolen, including “an irreplaceable trunk” and collectibles.
The video shows two people carrying the large trunk out of the garage and having trouble placing it in the back of their car. The two suspects drove away with the trunk sticking out and the car’s hatchback unfastened.
On Thursday, the Police Department released a photo of one of the suspects caught on camera. Police said the man, who appeared to be wearing a jumpsuit, a baseball cap, glasses and gloves, was captured on a security camera burglarizing another garage in “broad daylight” on Oct. 4.
The vehicle associated with The James garage burglaries appears to be an older model Hyundai Elantra or similar small car, police said.
The Police Department asked anyone with information about the suspects including their car to call the non-emergency dispatch phone number at 916-625-5400, ask for investigations and reference case number 21-265-2.
