Detectives found an assault rifle and other contraband items including several pounds of methamphetamine after serving a search warrant at a home in Sheridan, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

In a Facebook post detailing the incident, the sheriff’s office said detectives discovered a non-serialized short-barreled AR-15 assault rifle, a non-serialized 9mm handgun, more than 9 pounds of methamphetamine, close to half a pound of heroin and 2 pounds of marijuana at a home on F Street in Sheridan Oct. 6. Non-serialized weapons, or “ghost guns,” lack commercial serial numbers and therefore are illegal to possess in California.

Detectives also found a stolen motorcycle and a “large quantity” of cash, according to the post.

Daniel Mennick, 49, was arrested in connection with the search and seizure, according to the post. The sheriff’s office did not explain why the search warrant was issued in the post, and did not immediately respond to questions from The Sacramento Bee.
