Victim struck by gunfire while in vehicle in Sacramento shooting, police say

Police officers were investigating a shooting after a victim reported he was struck by gunfire while in his vehicle Saturday afternoon near West El Camino Avenue in Sacramento.

The shooting was initially reported about 4:15 p.m. in the 600 block of north Fifth Street, just north of Richards Boulevard, Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Karl Chan told The Sacramento Bee on Sunday.

Chan said the victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury. The officers later determined that the shooting occurred near El Camino and American avenues in the Gardenland neighborhood.

Officers canvassed the area, looking for evidence and witnesses. There was no further information available early Sunday night.
