West Sacramento police arrest man in Tuesday’s fatal shooting on Orchard Way

Detectives on Wednesday arrested a man on suspicion of homicide in connection with a shooting that occurred Tuesday evening in West Sacramento.

The shooting was reported at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 2100 block of Orchard Way, just north of the Capital City Freeway. Officers arrived and found an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds, the West Sacramento Police Department announced in a news release Wednesday.

The officers secured the crime scene and provided medical aid to the shooting victim, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Yolo County Coroner’s Office will release his name once his family has been notified.

Detectives took over the shooting investigation and later identified Ernesto Gonzalez, 27, of West Sacramento, as the suspect, according to the news release.

At about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, Gonzalez was arrested after police spotted him leaving a West Sacramento home. Police said he was booked into the Yolo County Jail.
