15-year-old boy suffers life-threatening injuries in south Sacramento hit-and-run crash

A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking in a south Sacramento intersection on Friday.

In a news release, the South Sacramento California Highway Patrol Unit said the crash occurred at 7:45 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 47th Avenue.

The boy was seen walking north on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard through a crosswalk against a red light when a driver in a black Mercedes ML 300 SUV entered the intersection on westbound 47th Avenue on a green light, according to the CHP.

When the boy walked into the leftmost westbound lane, he was hit by the Mercedes. The boy was thrown across the intersection onto a sidewalk at the northwest corner and left unconscious.

The driver of the Mercedes briefly pulled onto the right-hand shoulder, according to the CHP, but ultimately left, going west on 47th Avenue.

Fire personnel took the boy to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

CHP officials said the suspect’s license plate reads 6GYR199. The CHP is asking anyone who has information on the whereabouts of the Mercedes to call 916-879-5600.
