A suspicious package prompting a police response and closure of a Woodland post office Monday turned out to be a typewriter.

The Woodland Police Department in a Facebook post just before noon said the parking lot to the post office on West Main Street was closed and that people should avoid the area, the Police Department said in a Facebook post shortly before noon.

In an update around 2:30 p.m., the department said an explosive ordnance disposal team “was able to determine using their robot that the package was not an explosive device.”

Police posted a photo of the benign finding: an Olympia SM-series portable typewriter.

The parking lot has reopened to the public, and police have cleared the scene, authorities said.
