A standoff between law enforcement and a pursuit suspect Tuesday afternoon ended with the suspect being taken into custody on Highway 99 north of Sacramento, authorities said.

Highway 99 was closed in both directions at Riego Road due to “a barricaded subject in a vehicle following a pursuit,” the California Highway Patrol’s Yuba-Sutter office said in a Facebook post, with the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office assisting in negotiations.

CHP Yuba-Sutter wrote in an update just before 1 p.m. that the suspect was taken into custody.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post around 11:30 a.m. said deputies were assisting the CHP with an unspecified “critical incident.”

Southbound Highway 99 and the southbound Riego Road offramp, just north of the Sacramento-Sutter county line, will remain closed until around 1:30 p.m., the CHP said.
