Sacramento pursuit suspect hits patrol vehicles while trying to evade arrest, police say

Police tape at crime scene

A reported disturbance with an armed suspect Wednesday in Sacramento’s River District led to a stolen vehicle chase that ended near Old North Sacramento, where the suspect struck patrol vehicles while trying to escape, police said.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., officers were called to the 100 block of North 16th Street, where the public disturbance was reported. The victim and suspect were in an argument. The suspect was reportedly armed with a knife, said Officer Ryan Woo, a spokesman with the Sacramento Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene and spotted the suspect in a reported stolen vehicle, Woo said. The suspect drove away in the vehicle. A police pursuit ensued.

The vehicle chase ended in the area of Del Paso Boulevard and Edgewater Road. There, the suspect continued his attempts to escape and struck patrol vehicles occupied by officers, Woo said.

He said the suspect eventually got out of the stolen vehicle, and officers took him into custody. None of the officers involved in the chase were injured.

The suspect was in the process of being booked at the Sacramento County Jail, so his name and age were not available Wednesday evening, Woo said.
