Student in custody after report of weapon locks down Marysville High School campus

The Marysville High School campus was briefly locked down Thursday morning following a report of a possible gun on campus, school district officials and police said. A weapon was found, and a student was taken into custody.

Police responded just before 9 a.m. “to a report of a possible weapon on campus,” Marysville Joint Unified School District said in a post to its website.

The Marysville Police Department in a separate news release said it responded to a “report of a student on campus with a gun” shortly after 8:30 a.m.

“Marysville Police department responded to the scene and were able to quickly identify the student and take possession of the weapon,” the news release continued.

The campus lockdown remained in place as a precaution as police continued to investigate, but district officials in an update just before 9:10 a.m. wrote that students “are safe.”

The lockdown was lifted by 9:45 a.m., district officials said in another update.

No other details were immediately available.
