Interstate 5 closed in Sacramento as CHP investigates shooting near Richards Boulevard
Southbound traffic slowed to a crawl Monday evening on Interstate 5 in Sacramento as the California Highway Patrol investigated the scene of a shooting near Richards Boulevard.
CBS13 reported that the CHP was investigating a suspected road rage incident that involved a person who was shot in a Dodge Ram pickup and taken to a hospital.
The shooting occurred in the southbound lanes of I-5 and stemmed from a road rage incident that began about 2:15 p.m. several miles away on Interstate 80 near Watt Avenue, KCRA 3 reported.
Investigators were searching for a white Mercedes that is believed to have been involved in the shooting, ABC 10 reported.
About 4:45 p.m., Caltrans announced on Twitter that southbound I-5 was closed from I-80 to Richards Boulevard because of police activity in the area. There was no estimated time for when the southbound lanes will be reopened to traffic. Caltrans officials urged drivers to avoid the area if possible and expect heavy delays.
Caltrans cameras about 5:15 p.m. showed southbound traffic on I-5 backed up beyond Airport Boulevard.
