A driver, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, crashed down a 300-foot embankment in Auburn’s Rivergrade area late Tuesday, December 7, 2021, suffering minor injuries.

A suspected drunk driver crashed down a steep 300-foot embankment late Tuesday night in Auburn, police said, but suffered only minor injuries.

Police, firefighters and the California Highway Patrol responded to the single-vehicle collision in the Rivergrade area, the Auburn Police Department said in a social media post.

“The driver rolled the vehicle several times before coming to rest approximately 300 feet down the steep embankment,” police wrote.

Responders assisted the driver out of the vehicle and transported the motorist to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Police Department said, based on initial contact with the driver, “suspicion of alcohol impairment was the cause of this collision,” though the department did not specify whether a DUI arrest was made.
