Sacramento sheriff detectives investigate fatal shooting at Carmichael apartments

Sacramento County sheriff’s homicide detectives investigated Wednesday the death of a man found with a gunshot wound after residents heard shots fired and a scream late Tuesday at a Carmichael apartment complex.

The man was found at the large apartment complex on the 5900 block of Van Alstine Avenue, just east of Fair Oaks Boulevard. Shortly after 10 p.m., residents there reported hearing the gunshots and a scream, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies arrived and found a man who suffered at least one gunshot wound to the upper body, sheriff’s officials said. The deputies performed life-saving measures until medics from the Metropolitan Fire District arrived and took over. They took the injured man to a hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators questioned witnesses and gathered evidence at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office said there was no further information about the shooting nor suspect information available.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the man killed in the shooting once his family has been notified.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the fatal shooting to call the Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted confidentially by calling 916-874-8477 or by filling out the Sheriff’s Office online tip form.
