Man found dead in North Highlands apartment in welfare check by Sacramento deputies

Gunshot fatality

Sacramento County sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead Tuesday during a welfare check in North Highlands, two days after a gunshot was heard.

A resident of an apartment complex on Harrison Street called the sheriff’s dispatch center Tuesday afternoon, reporting that they heard “a gunshot and shattered glass” on Sunday and had not seen anyone enter or leave the apartment unit since then, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The caller requested a welfare check for the resident, who lived alone.

“Deputies arrived a few minutes later and located the apartment which had a shattered sliding glass door,” sheriff’s officials wrote. “Once inside, deputies found an adult male subject who was obviously deceased.”

Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.

No suspect information is available, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
