1 arrested, 1 sought after armed robbery at south Sacramento jewelry store
Deputies have arrested a man on suspicion of an armed robbery at a south Sacramento jewelry store Thursday afternoon, while a second suspect remains outstanding.
The sheriff’s dispatch center received a call around 3:45 p.m. reporting that two men entered a store in the 6300 block of Florin Road with guns, stole a “large amount of merchandise” and fled in a vehicle, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Robbery detectives identified one of the suspects as James Jonathan Pizzagrani, 36, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Detectives tracked him to a Pinole motel, where he was taken into custody without incident, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Pizzagrani was armed with a semi-automatic firearm and “indicia from the crime” at the time of his arrest, authorities said. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges related to robbery, theft, possession of a firearm by a felon and parole violation.
Pizzagrani also had three outstanding felony warrants from Santa Cruz County and Contra Costa County sheriff’s offices, as well as one from the UC Berkeley Police Department, his Sacramento County booking log showed.
The Sheriff’s Office said Pizzagrani is ineligible for bail due to a parole hold, but bail would be set at $1 million if that hold is lifted.
Detectives are still working to identify the second suspect in the robbery.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the suspect or the robbery to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 916-874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
