Authorities investigate fatal crash near Rio Linda Boulevard in North Sacramento area

Authorities on Wednesday were investigating a crash that killed a driver after a vehicle went off a road and overturned in the North Sacramento area.

The crash was reported about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday near Rio Linda and Marysville boulevards in Sacramento’s Robla neighborhood, according to the California Highway Patrol online dispatch page.

The white vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof about 75 feet off the road in a muddy area, the CHP reported. It was unclear what exactly led to the crash.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the single-vehicle crash. Metro Fire said there was only one occupant in the vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Metro Fire asks our community members to please drive safely and defensively to hopefully prevent similar incidents,” fire officials said on Twitter.

Cal Fire officials on Wednesday asked drivers traveling for the holidays to use “extreme caution” with heavy rain expected over many areas across the state. Drivers were urged to monitor weather alerts and reduce speed while maintaining a safe distance between cars if roads are wet.
