Human remains found near Yuba County campground, detectives and coroner investigating

Yuba County Sheriff detectives and the coroner are investigating after human remains were found by a hiker near a county campground last week.

On Dec. 21 around 3 p.m., a hiker called 911 after discovering the skeletal remains near the Dark Day Campground at New Bullards Bar Reservoir near Camptonville, according to a Monday afternoon news release from Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s deputies responded and confirmed the remains were human. Investigators were then called to conduct a coroner’s examination.

The coroner will identify the skeletal remains and determine the person’s manner of death. The investigation is currently active and ongoing.

No further information has been released at this time.
