Head-on suspected DUI crash in Carmichael leaves 1 woman dead, 4 others injured
A 38-year-old Carmichael woman died and three children with her and another driver were injured, following a suspected DUI crash in Sacramento County on Wednesday, according to a release from North Sacramento California Highway Patrol.
Around 5:27 p.m., officers arrived to the collision site at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Kinross Road in Carmichael, and found a Kia Optima had collided head-on with a Ford Fusion, officials said.
The 38-year-old woman was driving the Kia Optima and had three male passengers: a 13-year-old, 10-year-old and 6-year old.
A 52-year-old woman, who is also from Carmichael, was driving the Ford Fusion.
The crash is still under investigation, but CHP said that the driver of the Kia Optima had driven into oncoming traffic, resulting in the front of the car colliding with the Ford.
The drivers and children were transported to nearby hospitals. Two people were in critical condition, while the other three had major injuries, officials said shortly after the crash.
However, shortly after her arrival, the 38-year-old woman died due to her injuries.
The crash is still under investigation but officials suspect the 38-year-old was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
