Elk Grove police pursuit ends on Highway 99 with two flat tires and driver in custody
An attempted traffic stop Tuesday morning in an Elk Grove neighborhood led to a pursuit on Highway 99 that ended after a spike-strip flattened two tires on the suspect’s vehicle, police said.
The officers first attempted the traffic stop in response to a call for service, the Elk Grove Police Department announced about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on social media. It was unclear what was the call for service.
The man driving the vehicle refused to stop when the officer tried to pull him over, but then the vehicle stopped after a short distance in the area of Aspen Brook Way near Shasta Lily Drive, police said. The neighborhood is less than a mile east of Highway 99.
The man refused to get out of the vehicle for some time before he drove away, running over the spike-strip in the process, according to the Police Department. Then, the police pursuit continued.
The vehicle’s two flat tires ended the chase on the shoulder of Highway 99 near Woodbridge Road. Police said the officers took the man into custody after a brief struggle.
Sgt. Jason Jimenez, an Elk Grove police spokesman, said Tuesday morning they were still waiting for more information about the incident what led to the call for the service. He said the name of the man taken into custody was not available.
