Woman killed in hit-and-run on Garden Highway in Sacramento, police say

A woman was killed in an apparent hit-and-run Tuesday night on Sacramento’s Garden Highway along the American River Parkway, police said.

Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to the 1000 block of Garden Highway for reports of a pedestrian down in the roadway, Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Chad Lewis said.

Police located a woman with major injuries from an apparent vehicle collision, Lewis said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Sacramento Fire Department personnel.

Lewis said detectives responded and determined the involved driver fled the scene. No suspect or suspect vehicle information was available, Lewis said. The investigation remains active.

Garden Highway was closed in the area until around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
