Sheriff’s Office investigating south Sacramento shooting after victim dies at hospital

Gunshot fatality

Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating after receiving reports that a person was shot inside a vehicle Thursday evening in south Sacramento.

A witness who called 911 told authorities that the vehicle containing the victim “was driven away from the scene,” the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. near the 6900 block of Stockton Boulevard.

Arriving deputies found evidence that a shooting had taken place, but were unable to locate any victims or an involved vehicle.

A shooting victim connected to the incident died at a hospital, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Rodney Grassmann confirmed Friday morning. The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.

The shooting was being investigated as a homicide, the Sheriff’s Office said. Detectives and crime scene investigators responded to interview witnesses and gather evidence, authorities said.

No suspect information or vehicle description was available.
