Update: Man dies on Sacramento street after possible chase by armed assailant

A young man shot to death Sunday night apparently sought to escape his assailants before he was gunned down not far from the Capital City Freeway.

The motive is not known in the shooting that was reported at 11:12 p.m. Sunday. Gunshots were heard in the area and a body was reported in the roadway.

Sacramento police officers found the gunshot victim on Auburn Boulevard near Marconi Circle. The man in his 20s, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead by Sacramento Fire Department medical personnel.

Detectives believe the man was confronted and then possibly chased just before he was shot. The assailants were last seen running on Marconi Circle toward the Capital City Freeway.

No arrests have been made.
