Placer County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Oregon man who led them on a 20-mile vehicle pursuit that ended when California Highway Patrol officers used a spike-strip to stop the vehicle, sheriff’s officials said.

About 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, the deputy pulled over the vehicle that was heading east on Interstate 80 near the Bell Road exit ramp near Auburn, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday in a news release.

The deputy asked the driver, who was later identified as Anthony Elmore, 20, of Medford, to exit the freeway because of the dangerous position of the stopped vehicle.

Sheriff’s officials said the deputy followed Elmore, who failed to exit the freeway and drove away. The vehicle pursuit ensued.

Elmore made unsafe lane changes while driving at inconsistent speeds and, at times, drove in multiple traffic lanes at the same time, according to the sheriff’s office.

CHP officers deployed a spike-strip and disabled the suspect’s vehicle about 20 miles into the pursuit. Deputies found inside Elmore’s vehicle a collapsible metal baton, two 31-round Glock gun ammunition magazines and “a realistic-looking Glock 19 BB gun,” sheriff’s officials said.

Elmore was arrested on suspicion of recklessly evading police, possessing a large-capacity ammunition magazine and possessing a baton, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
