Sacramento man indicted on charges of child pornography, exploitation, U.S. attorney says
A Sacramento man was indicted in federal court Thursday on five charges related to the sexual exploitation of children and child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In a news release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California said Raymond James Cornett, 49, was charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of children, one count of distributing child pornography and another count of receiving child pornography.
Prosecutors allege that Cornett exploited four children between 2012 and March 2020 with the intention of producing pornographic material.
If convicted on the exploitation charges, he could face a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison for each count, plus a $250,000 fine. If convicted on the child pornography charges, Cornett could face a minimum sentence of five and a maximum of 20 years in prison, plus a $250,000 fine.
Sacramento County jail records indicate that Cornett remains in custody on $100,000 bail. He was arrested by Sacramento police officers on Sept. 8, 2020.
The case against Cornett was brought after an investigation by the Sacramento Police Department and other federal investigative agencies, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
