Police have arrested a suspect in connection with recent vehicle explosions in Sacramento’s South Oak Park neighborhood.

Homemade pipe bombs detonated around 9:45 p.m. on Jan. 23 in the 4000 block of 34th Street and around 6 p.m. Friday near 20th Avenue and 32nd Street, the Sacramento Police Department said in an initial news release Saturday.

Officers around noon Saturday were conducting a follow-up investigation and serving a search warrant near the 4300 block of 32nd Street when they found “two active pipe bombs along with additional evidence that a suspect detonated a pipe bomb in the intersection of 19th Avenue and 32nd Street,” the Police Department said in an updated statement late Sunday.

Authorities identified the person who detonated that pipe bomb as 23-year-old Cody Wiggs, who was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple felony counts of possessing an explosive in a public place.

Wiggs is due in court Tuesday. He is ineligible for bail, jail records show.

No one was injured in the vehicle explosions Jan. 23 and last Friday, authorities said.

The Police Department said its investigation into the vehicle explosions remains active, and that anyone with information about the incidents should contact the authorities.
