Missing Rancho Cordova woman found dead near American River in suspected homicide

Police tape at crime scene

A young Rancho Cordova woman reported missing last week was found dead Tuesday near the American River, and police said the death is being investigated as a homicide.

Family members on Thursday reported 20-year-old Emma Roark missing, last seen near Coloma Road and McGregor Drive, the Rancho Cordova Police Department said in a previous statement.

After a four-day search effort involving sheriff’s deputies, park rangers, helicopters, dogs and drones, authorities found a woman’s body in a “secluded rural area at the river access on El Manto (Drive),” the Police Department said in a news release late Tuesday.

That access point to the American River is about a mile away from where Roark had last been seen.

Authorities determined that the woman found was the victim of a homicide but did not specify a cause of death, which is pending an autopsy, police said.

No suspect information is available.

The victim has not been formally identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, but the Police Department said the body found matches Roark’s description.
